- IP68: Indicates complete protection against dust (6) and resistance to continuous immersion in water up to a depth of 1.5 meters for a maximum of 30 minutes.
- IP69: Adds the ability to withstand high-pressure and high-temperature water jets, allowing for industrial cleaning or exposure to intense washing.
Architecture and Functionality
Water resistance does not depend on a single component but on the device's integral architecture. This includes:
- Sealing of gaskets and hydrophobic membranes in ports and buttons.
- Internal coatings of electronic circuits.
- Case design that minimizes entry points for liquids.
The MIL-STD-810H certification complements these tests, although it is important to note that water resistance does not guarantee the general ruggedness of the equipment or its use in extreme conditions.
Applications and Scope

Limitations
- Water resistance is temporary and can degrade over time due to gasket wear.
- It is not designed for use in pools, the sea, or highly saline or chlorinated water without additional precautions.
- The certification does not cover damage from extreme impacts, although some devices include drop resistance up to 1.2 meters.

When finding the IP68/IP69 label on a product, the user should understand that the device is designed to withstand controlled immersion and high-pressure jets, but it is not indefinitely submersible nor in any type of liquid.
