Unlike radio waves, infrared transmission generally requires a direct line of sight between transmitters and receivers, limiting its range and transmission angle.

Architecture and Functioning

The technology is based on the IrDA (Infrared Data Association) standard. The system consists of a transmitter (infrared LED) and a receiver (photodiode). Data is modulated into light pulses that travel through the air.
