IP69 certification is an ingress protection rating (from the English term Ingress Protection) indicating that an enclosure, housing, or component is designed to resist the intrusion of dust and water. It belongs to the family of IP codes defined by the international standard IEC 60529, which establishes a two-digit system to quantify the degree of protection of a device against external agents.

Principles and code structure

The IP69 code consists of two digits describing, respectively, the level of protection against solids and against liquids:

• First digit (6): indicates protection against the intrusion of solid particles, in this case the maximum level of dust-tightness.
• Second digit (9): indicates protection against the intrusion of liquids, in this case against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.

The combination of both digits allows the user to quickly identify the product's resistance level without consulting extensive technical documentation.
